Birthday Flowers 1947
Birthday Flowers
Title : Birthday Flowers appears on a label on the back of the frame.
Signed : E D Bridge 1947. (Note square E)
Medium : Brush-painted Oil on Canvas, framed (with wedges) 60cm x 50cm. A matte clear removable water-based varnish was applied in 2026.
The frame : 73cm x 63cm is moulded plaster on wood, painted and varnished in 2026 to restore the original antique gold effect.
Markings : on the reverse there's a label bearing the title and Doris's name and address - all in Doris's own handwriting. Doris has already written her name and address in ink directly on the back of the frame. Also written (in chalk?) on the reverse of the frame in bold capitals Doris's name - perhaps by the frame-maker.
This frame is therefore likely to be the original, selected and arranged by Doris herself..
Who the flowers were for? Who were they from?
If they were for Doris, then were they from an unknown admirer?
